Fabric Descriptions & Care Instructions

Linen

Description:
Linen is a timeless natural fibre made from the flax plant. Loved for its soft texture, gentle drape, and lived-in beauty, it becomes more supple with every wash. Linen breathes easily, keeping you cool in summer and warm in cooler months — perfect for garments, homeware, and everyday sewing projects.

Care:

Cold or warm gentle machine wash

Use mild detergent

Do not bleach

Line dry in the shade

Warm iron while slightly damp for best results

Linen softens beautifully over time with wear and washing

Cotton

Description:
A true sewing classic, cotton is soft, versatile, and a pleasure to sew. It presses well, holds its shape, and is ideal for everything from clothing and quilting to home projects. At Arthurs, we choose natural cottons that are kind to both maker and earth — breathable, comfortable, and made to last.

Care:

Machine wash in cold or warm water

Mild detergent recommended

Line dry or tumble dry on low

Warm iron if needed

Some shrinkage may occur on first wash

Care:

Hand wash in cold water with gentle silk detergent

Do not wring or twist

Lay flat or hang to dry out of direct sunlight

Use a cool iron on reverse side, or steam carefully

Alternatively, dry clean for longevity

Wool

Description:
Warm, soft, and full of character, wool is nature’s insulator. Perfect for outerwear, blankets, and structured garments, it offers both comfort and durability. Wool resists wrinkles, repels moisture, and feels beautifully natural to work with.

Care:

Gentle cold hand wash or wool cycle

Use wool-specific detergent

Do not bleach or tumble dry

Roll in a towel to remove excess water, then lay flat to dry

Steam or press gently with a warm iron and cloth

Rayon / Viscose (Plant-based)
